All mid/bass woofers in the BP9020 feature our innovative Balanced Double Surround System™ (BDSS) technology which improves driver excursion. BDSS results in a wider, more uniform midrange soundstage throughout your listening environment and also enables the BP9020’s woofers to play lower and blend better with its built-in subwoofer. With a more consistent soundstage and detailed mids and lows, BDSS drivers ensure that with the BP9020, you’re always in the best seat in the house.
The BP9020 premier technology is our patented Forward Focused Bipolar Array (FFBA). The BP9020 array incorporates three 3.5” midrange drivers (two front-facing/one rear-facing) and one front-facing 1” aluminium dome tweeter. By simultaneously firing both forward and backward, a naturalistic delay is added to the sound that creates a sense of immense depth in rooms of any size.
The BP9020 includes a built-in powered 8” subwoofer, which results in more consistent bass throughout your room. With integrated subwoofers, you’ll feel impactful low end that you wouldn’t expect from floorstanding loudspeakers alone.
Intelligent Bass Control, a Definitive Technology exclusive, enables you to experience powerful deep bass performance from the BP9020 without sacrificing optimal midrange clarity. Intelligent Bass Control achieves this by utilizing 56-bit digital signal processing to allow boosting of the bottom two octaves of your signal without altering the bass-to-midbass blending and crossover point. Combined with BP9020’s resonance-free cabinets, Intelligent Bass Control ensures that your chosen bass level will never get in the way of dialogue or any other aspect of the soundtrack.
The BP9020’s Aluminium Dome Tweeters feature ultralight, rigid construction that enables them to play significantly higher frequencies than we can hear with incredibly fast and accurate transient response. This provides effortless, distortion-free performance within and beyond the audible range—perfect for the enjoyment of high-resolution audio.
The BP9020 is wrapped in an acoustically transparent black cloth grille that won’t affect the sound. As soon as you dim the lights, they disappear into your room—so you can focus on the movie, not your speakers.

To highlight the integrated powered subwoofer and show that your speaker is receiving a signal, you'll find an LED logo at its bottom front panel. Turn it on or off at your leisure and also note that it will automatically turn off/standby after 20 minutes of no active signal.
