Solid-State Performance

Mini Terra Prime features 8TB of internal solid-state storage, enough to store approximately 125 high-bitrate Kaleidescape 4K movies. Movies download in as little as 4 minutes over a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet connection. Mini Terra Prime supports up to 25 simultaneous playbacks, and up to four servers can be grouped together in a system for even more storage.

Custom Installation

Mini Terra Prime can be tucked behind a TV or placed on a shelf, as long as you provide a minimum of 7mm clearance on top for convection cooling. For a more customised installation, official Kaleidescape rack shelves and wall mount solutions are available to purchase separately.

More About Kaleidescape Movies

Downloaded, Not Streamed

Movie bitrates up to 100 Mbps. Kaleidescape movies are high bitrate and downloaded to local storage for uninterrupted, flawless playback. There is never buffering or degradation, unlike streaming services that are limited by internet infrastructure. Kaleidescape movies are also unconstrained by file size limits, enabling the Kaleidescape content team to maximise the video quality transcoded from studio mezzanine files, unlike Blu-ray discs that have a maximum file size limit.

Leading streaming services encode 4K video at an average of around 8 megabits per second. Kaleidescape’s 4K movies are encoded at an average of 65 megabits per second. While streaming platforms provide content that’s highly compressed and can vary depending on internet bandwidth, Kaleidescape movies are downloaded to a local hard drive so they play perfectly every time. The streaming video suffers from severe compression artifacts, including loss of detail and colour accuracy, and a lot of added noise.

Not only do Kaleidescape movies carry more video information, but audio reproduction is bit-for-bit lossless quality. Compared to streaming services, Kaleidescape’s higher audio bitrate ensures you will hear everything from the softest whispers to room-rattling explosions.
