Why do I need a preamp?
A phono pre-amplifier is designed to boost the signal from a turntable or record player before the signal is passed to your Hi-Fi amplifier or receiver. Typically the signal output from a turntable or record player is quite weak, and it's required to be boosted before it hits the main amplifier of your stereo or hi-fi unit.
Some turntables and amplifiers have a phono preamp built into them, but more often than not, a dedicated preamp is required to bring the low-level signal to a level that an amplifier can work with.
Many music lovers prefer to use a dedicated phono preamp in place of the small one built into their equipment as it results in a better sound.
Noise-Free Sound
As with the PHO-500 and the PHO-701, the PHO-300's power supply is housed in an external unit. Like the main unit, the power supply is specially designed to avoid hum interference and unwanted noise. The isolated power supply supplies the phono unit with "clean, constant current". The selective choice of the other components in this unit results in a signal with very low noise.
