The top-performing stand mount speaker in the range, 705 S2 features studio-inspired technologies, for immaculate sound quality.
"The 705 S2s are instantly impressive. This is a weighty, solid delivery with a quantity and depth of bass that's both disarming and impressive given the size of the cabinet."
"But this bass, while attractive to the ear and arguably the first thing you notice, doesn't dominate the performance."
Designers often argue that a product's functional and aesthetic qualities are closely related. Bowers & Wilkins couldn't agree more with this remark. In fact, the solid body tweeter on top of each 705 speaker is a case in point. It's an object engineered first and foremost for acoustic performance. However, in its minimal simplicity, it's also undeniably beautiful.
This is a philosophy that runs deep in the DNA of the 700 Series. A speaker range that's music to your ears, and very easy on your eyes as well.
The 705 speakers employ solid body tweeters, a high-performance design feature found previously only on the 800 Series Diamond. Their acoustically-optimised form is milled from a solid block of aluminium, forming a structure that's exceptionally inert and resistant to resonances.
Carbon Dome tweeters are a brand new technology purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on the aluminium Double-dome tweeter, they raise the breakup threshold to 47kHz, well outside the human range of hearing. This allows pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail, without any unwanted noise disturbing your listening.
Voices and instruments are delivered with purity and precision, thanks to the smooth, accurate Continuum cone midrange/bass driver. First introduced with the 800 Series Diamond, the Continuum cone represents the biggest step-change in midrange performance since Kevlar. Its woven coated material provides highly controlled break-up, resulting in a more open, neutral midrange, and a tigher, more responsive bass.
This woven composite material offers more flexibility and driver control than Kevlar. It also offers lower noise and better self-dampening, and the impulse response time is far quicker than previous cone technologies.
Developed over an eight-year period, the Continuum cone was first featured on the flagship 800 Series Diamond models, including the 800 D3, now in use in Abbey Road Studios. It truly makes your music come alive, delivering the crucial sounds fundamental to any great music experience.
The bass reflex port is located on the rear baffle. Although the port tubing is made from a smooth-surfaced material, the flared exit is made from a dimpled polypropylene material that minimises turbulence as the air exits (and enters!) the port.
This Flowport system from Bowers & Wilkins creates a low-end response that is deep, yet controlled and clear.
