If you’re looking for a full on action packed end of the world, humans versus the monsters sci-fi movie, then Pacific Rim could be the flick for you. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the film is set in the near future when legions of monstrous creatures, known as “Kaiju”, start rising from the Pacific Ocean beginning a war taking millions of lives.
To combat the Kaiju, soldiers pilot a new weapon in the form of massive robots called “Jaegers”, which are controlled simultaneously by two people. Despite their size, even the Jaegers are struggling to match it with the merciless sea creatures which continue to surge.
On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Boasting powerful CG visual impact, Pacific Rim is the combination of man and machine virtually integrating into each other. With a catch-cry “Go Big Or Go Extinct”, Del Toro is determined to sell the monster Kaijo and the man-made Jaeger’s to the audience in the hope that we will be left wanting more.
If you’re looking for gripping effects, big sound and something that might suit teens during the school holidays, Starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Charlie Day, Pacific Rim 2D & 3D is in Cinemas 11th July and is rated M.
