  1. What are all those inputs at the back of my receiver?

When you first looked at the back of your AV receiver, did you have to lean in closer to see what all those little colourful holes, knobs and switches were? As new devices and technologies have evolved in audio visual, the receivers have had to evolve also. Your receiver needs to be able to accept the cable or connection from whichever device you want to plug in, therefore providing a vast array of connection types. Having all these inputs and outputs can easily cause confusion, so we're here to help you out.

  2. How do I mount my Flat-Screen TV to the wall?

One of the great benefits of having a slimline flat screen television is the ability to mount it on the wall. There are a couple of things you need to do before buying your bracket. You will need to know the size and weight of your television. You will also need to see what the mounting pattern at the back of your TV is as this will also determine which bracket to use. Once you have determined the size, weight and hole pattern of your television, you will need to determine the function you need from your bracket. Do you want it fixed, tiltable or full motion. (See our blog on bracket types)

So now you’ve got your bracket, here are the next steps to mount your TV.

  5. Blu-Ray vs DVD. Are you ready to jump aboard?

Some of us are early adopters, always wanting  to be at the forefront of technology, and just have to get the latest thing as soon as it’s released. Others are happy to wait until the creases are ironed out, and jump on board when they’ve had time to research the Pro’s and Con’s.

Now that Blu-Ray has been around for a while, it is becoming more common for viewers to upgrade from DVD. What are the differences, and is it worth upgrading? Blu-Ray sets look similar to DVD players, but the difference really lies in image quality, sound and additional disc features, thanks to the increased storage space available on Blu-Ray discs.

  7. Improve your Home Theatre Viewing with a Projector Screen

We can be tempted to save some money when we invest into creating a Home Theatre. A typical decision may be to project your movie directly onto the wall. There is nothing wrong with doing this, however there are certain things that may help convince you that a projector screen is worth the dollars. When you project onto a white wall, the majority of light is absorbed and less is reflected back, which often means a loss of brightness and sharpness.

  8. What are Banana Plugs, and why would I use them?

Banana plugs are little plugs that you attach to the ends of speaker wire to plug into your amp/receiver and speakers. There are a huge range of both connectors and price.

The big question is whether you need to use them. Personally I love them. The greatest benefit to me is I don’t have to hang upside down at the back of my unit trying to screw down the receiver connectors and risk breaking my neck! I love that I can sit on my lounge and screw on the red and black banana plugs to the speaker lead and once done, just plug it all together in minutes. It also reduces the likelihood of stray wires bridging the terminals. It makes my life easier.
